I became an apprentice basket maker at the age of 17 in 1985. My day started at 8am and finished at 4pm Monday to Friday for £50 a week. This was in the largest and most well known basket making company in Brighton. I became a full time professional after a few years of being tutored in the traditional way.
I have made all sorts of bespoke English willow basketware props, for use in Major Movie Feature Films, TV Channels & Theatres.
Other produced items range from Cradles to Coffins plus everything else required. Square baskets are a specialty for bespoke individually designed kitchens.
I also tutor my own basketmaking courses, which will be starting again next year.
Plus I demonstrate the Art of basketmaking at carefully selected craft events/shows. Within Sussex and the neighbouring Counties. There is a daily charge for this service, as might be expected as to cover my time and fuel costs.
