I have been producing Top Quality totally ENGLISH bespoke basketware for over 33 years.
I became an apprentice basket maker at the age of 17 in 1985. My day started at 8am and finished at 4pm Monday to Friday for £50 a week. This was in the largest and most well known basket making company in Brighton. I became a full time professional after a few years of being tutored in the traditional way. I make all sorts of English willow wicker baskets from gift baskets to bespoke baskets for kitchens.
I love to extend my skills, as this also enables me to keep on progressing within my chosen field.
To keep myself on my toes and to not become complacent, I like to experiment with new shapes.
This heart shaped basket opposite was my last personal challenge. I thought this was a great iconic symbol to create, as it's an instantly recognisable shape. My objective was to make this with really crisp, defined, curved lines. I am happy with this completed product and to have achieved my desired result.
